How to configure SpamAssassin on CyberPanel?

SpamAssassin is an open-source spam filter designed to identify and block unwanted emails, often referred to as spam. It's a widely used tool, both by individual users and email providers, that assesses emails and assigns them a "spam score" based on various criteria. The higher the score, the more likely the email is to be flagged as spam.

In essence, SpamAssassin is a powerful and versatile tool that helps to protect users from unwanted spam emails while also helping email senders ensure their messages are not flagged as spam.

To configure SpamAssassin on CyberPanel, first install it through the CyberPanel dashboard, then enable it and adjust the spam score threshold. You can also configure it further by editing the /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf file to fine-tune settings like the required spam score and how spam emails are marked.

Steps to Configure SpamAssassin on CyberPanel:

1. Install SpamAssassin: Log into CyberPanel as root or admin user. Navigate to "Mail Settings" in the CyberPanel dashboard. Select "SpamAssassin" and click "Install Now".

2. Enable SpamAssassin: After installation, toggle the switch to "Enable" to activate SpamAssassin on your server.

3. Configure Spam Score Threshold: Adjust the spam score threshold according to your needs. A lower threshold makes SpamAssassin more aggressive.

4. Fine-tune Settings (Optional): Open the /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf file with a text editor.

Common settings to adjust include:

  • required_score: Minimum score for a message to be marked as spam.
  • rewrite_header Subject: Changes the subject line of spam messages.
  • report_safe: Controls whether SpamAssassin includes a report for spam emails.

Save the changes and restart SpamAssassin for the changes to take effect.
